Harvard Climate Initiative Committee approved June minutes and received updates on electric vehicle chargers and solar expansion. A company is seeking to install EV chargers at McCurdy Track, Town Hall, and the Library through a grant program; committee member Richard Marcello cautioned that current rates around 70 cents per kilowatt-hour offer poor value and warrant careful negotiation. LED street light replacements are on track with National Grid for completion by October.
The committee learned that a State program offering low-interest loans for heat pumps, solar systems, and insulation has emerged but requires further study before Harvard can proceed; committee member Mario Cardenas also flagged serious drought conditions and requested notifications on the committee website and town website, with portable billboards to remind residents not to water their yards.
