Commission reviews PFAS contamination, betterment policies at landfill meeting

Harvard Water & Sewer Commission reviews PFAS findings near landfill, no regulatory exceedances recorded. Licensed Site Professional Robert Berger of Capital Environmental reported that 11 of 22 sampled homes show detectable PFAS compounds, with no homes exceeding the MassDEP regulatory limit of 20 nanograms per liter for regulated PFAS6 compounds. The Commission also discussed engaging Woodard & Curran to develop formal betterment policies and update water and sewer rules and regulations over an estimated three-month timeline.
A sewer abatement request from the Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church for an approximately $4,500 bill was tabled pending receipt of additional billing data.
