Energy Advisory Committee · Meeting of July 15, 2026

Harvard's Energy Advisory Committee advanced multiple decarbonization projects at its July 15 meeting as a controversial gravel pit solar development remained blocked by failed warrant votes. Chair Brian Smith and members voted 3-0 to approve prior minutes and recommend 100 percent renewable electricity at 14.16 cents per kilowatt-hour, adding approximately 4,517 dollars in annual cost. The 8 million dollar Bromfield school HVAC project, led by Forrest Hodgkins, moved toward design phase with an NV5 Engineering report recommending variable refrigerant flow heat pumps; the project seeks 2 million dollars in town funding and 1.5 million from National Grid rebates.

LED streetlight conversion received NGRID authorization to complete by October 2026 with estimated annual savings of 3,380 dollars. The gravel pit solar project, seeking Select Board approval of a credit purchase agreement by August 30 to preserve federal tax credits, faces a path forward after warrant articles failed at the May annual town meeting.
