Energy committee advances school HVAC electrification, gravel pit solar project.

Harvard energy panel advances major decarbonization efforts. The Energy Advisory Committee, led by Chair Brian Smith, reported progress on a planned 8 million dollar Bromfield School HVAC electrification project now advancing through the state's Accelerated Repair program, with design work targeted for completion by summer 2026. A 3-megawatt gravel pit solar project with developer Solect Energy cleared the Select Board on February 3, with warrant articles and community outreach scheduled before spring town meeting.
The Town Administrator signed a renewable-energy electric supply contract extension through December 2029 at approximately 13.88 cents per kilowatt-hour, following the committee's recommendation for 100 percent national renewable sources. LED streetlight retrofit samples will be installed in March, with completion targeted for October 2026 under National Grid incentives.
