Harvard Energy Advisory Committee backs renewable power at premium rate. The committee voted unanimously to recommend a three-year municipal electric contract extension at 13.88 cents per kilowatt-hour using 100 percent national renewable energy, citing the town's decarbonization goals despite an estimated added cost of $4,517 annually compared to a non-renewable rate. The Bromfield School heating electrification project, led by member Forrest Hodgkins, is advancing to detailed design after engineering firm NV5 recommended a variable refrigerant flow system with air conditioning and building management upgrades totaling $8 million, pending MSBA funding approval.
The committee also requested Select Board approval for a non-binding agreement with Solect Energy to develop a 3-megawatt solar installation on a 14-acre gravel pit, with financing and zoning warrant articles planned for the spring 2026 town meeting.
