Harvard Select Board unanimously endorses energy initiative with NextGen Energy. The board approved a nonbinding Memorandum of Understanding allowing the town to explore distributed energy resources and microgrids as part of a multi-town consortium under Massachusetts' Keep Lights On Initiative, with no upfront capital commitment required. In other action, the board unanimously adopted a 3.34 percent cost-of-living adjustment for non-union town employees in fiscal 2027, based on Northeast Region CPI data, and approved the "Longest Mile for the Bravest Minds" fundraiser by the Harvard Fire/EMS Association scheduled for May 3, 2026.
Chair Kara McGuire Minar acknowledged Town Administrator Dan Nason's resignation and confirmed the board is developing a transition plan. Finance Committee Chair Mike Derse reported the FY27 budget deficit has been reduced to an estimated $85,000 override requirement from an initial $1.6 million shortfall, aided by $313,000 in health insurance savings.
